Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany

The contest for the award of awards

The Design Award is the official recognition of excellence in design offered by the Federal Republic of Germany. It is the central promotion of design by the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology. Since 2006, the award has been conferred for excellence in design of products from the areas of product and communications design each year.
Companies cannot apply for the Design Award, but are nominated by the German Council for Styling and the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology. This nomination, however, requires that a product has already been awarded a national or international award. No other design award defines such a demanding criterion to be met by the participants. For this reason, the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany is called »Award of Awards« by many opinion leaders in the design sector.
