1880
Already since 1880 WMF has dealt with the preparation of coffee. In the beginning, the first coffee cookers had only little relation to our today’s ideas of a coffee machine. They worked according to the percolator principle, where the hot water rises through a cylinder hitting upon the ground coffee at the top.
1927
In 1927 the first large coffee machine from WMF heralded a technical revolution. It worked with vapour pressure and was the machine where the parts directly getting into contact with coffee were made of Cromargan. The strong points of the machine were its fastness and its ease of operation. This machine already applied two brewing processes: the pressureless brewing process and the “express” process working with pressure and being distinctly faster.
1948
The outbreak of the 2nd World War interrupted the very successful development of the WMF coffee machines, which could not be resumed until in 1948.
1954
In 1954 WMF had its big breakthrough with the fresh water wall coffee machines WMF 1000 Blitz. This machine was easy to operate, reliable and robust.
1955
In 1955 WMF took the espresso from Italy to Germany. The first WMF espresso machine was launched. A milestone which also attracted a big attention abroad. The espresso evolved into a fashionable beverage, and in no time the espresso machine became indispensable for the trend-oriented top gastronomy. The triumphant success of WMF in the segment of coffee machines could not be stopped anymore. And there were many big milestones to follow.
1958
In 1958 the Filtromat stood out above all due to its new boiler system which separated brewing water and vapour.
1969
In 1969 the Programat inspired the entire world. It was the first electronically controlled fully automatic machine for large volumes. All processes inside the machine, from portioning of the ground coffee to the filling of cups, were operated fully automatically. Another novelty was the waiter lock permitting a nearly close control of the dispensed beverages and an allocation to the corresponding waiter. Successful advancements were the various possible combinations of different accessory equipment and the dual freshness system. With the Programat WMF extended its lead in the coffee machine segment.
1986
In 1986 a further word’s first followed. Etamat, the fully automatic machine for single cups could not only brew coffee, but also different coffee specialties, such as Café Crème and Espresso. Each cup was ground freshly, brewed and dispensed at the push of a button.
1995
In 1995 Bistro was launched – a fully automatic machine which prepares all coffee and coffee-milk specialities freshly – and since 1998 the first machine latte to prepares latte macchiato as well at the push of a button. This pioneering innovation was a big success abroad.
2001
In 2001 a WMF coffee machine again conquered the international gastronomy. combiNation was the first coffee machine having a modular design, so that customers can assemble their machine completely according to their requirements and extend it any time.
2006
With the WMF1000 WMF takes 125 years of competence in coffee to the private households. The first professional fully automatic coffee specialty machine for the home.
