A true "Gugelhupf", a southern German and Austrian, but also Swiss term for a type of sponge ring known as a Bundt cake, consists of a soft yeast dough, which often has raisins added to it. A special Bundt cake pan gives the cake its unique shape. You will find a variety of baking pans in our assortment – it will not just be the true "Gugelhupf" that turns out perfectly every time.
A cake shaped like a hood – the "Gugelhupf" of past and present
The German term "Gugelhupf" is derived from the Middle High German word "Gugel", meaning hood, and we think that the cake certainly lives up to its name. By baking the cake in the tall Bundt cake pan, which also resembles a crown, the finished cake looks like a tall hat. In Germany as well as in Austria, the term "Gugelhupf" refers more to the shape of the cake than to the mixture itself. The original "Gugelhupf" is made from yeast dough, but all other mixtures baked in this distinctive baking pan bear this name. Today, simple pound cakes are often made in this pan, as well as walnut or marble cakes. Gugelhupf or Bundt cake pans are available in our assortment of KAISER baking pans in a variety of designs from mini to maxi. Also related to the classic Bundt cake is the springform pan with a funnel base, which gives the cake a similar crown shape.
The coating makes all the difference!
Easy removal is especially important for the Bundt cake pan with its curved surfaces. To prevent the cake mixture from sticking to the pan, WMF offers a range of non-stick coatings – not just for the Bundt cake pan, but for the pound cake pan, half-round loaf pan, flan pan or tartlet pan as well. We offer different qualities depending on the collection. The quality of the coating in the "La Forme Plus" baking range is extra heavy-duty and particularly scratch-resistant, whereas the "Home" collection has a bi-colour ceramic strengthened coating. Our "Energy" range has a special coating for bakers who are in a hurry, which can shorten the baking time by up to 30%. Last but not least, you can also find a Bundt cake pan among our silicone moulds, which make taking your cake out after baking literally a piece of cake.
